Rasam

Rasam:

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium tomatoes fnely chopped
  • 4-6 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp hing
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp rasam powder
  • 2 cups cooked  toor daal cooked with its water
  • Ghee

Directions:

  • In a pot heat 1 tbsp ghee. Add mustard seeds and let them pop. Next add cumin seeds and toast in oil for a few seconds. Add hing and curry leaves and then next add all the tomatoes.

  • Add 2 cups water and rasam powder, turmeric, and cook the tomatoes in water until tender.

  • Once tomatoes are cooked, add toor daal with the water and boil the rasam together for 2-3 minutes..

  • Turn the stove off.  Add juice of 1 lemon and chopped cilantro.

  • Serve over rice or drink like a soup with ghee on top.
